Today’s point: The Lord Jesus Christ is God’s Divine Warrior who brings His wrath to the final judgment.
The Divine Warrior
- How do we know this is Jesus Christ? Compare Isaiah 63:4 and Isaiah 61:2. Now see Luke 4:16-30 and Revelation 19:13.
- He fights the enemies of the people of God. Genesis 12:1-3; 25:30; Joel 3:13; Romans 4:16, 9:7; Revelation 14:17-20, 19:11-21.
- Jesus came to bring separation. Matthew 10:34-39; Luke 2:34; Isaiah 8:14.
His Day of Vengeance
- The winepress as a symbol of judgment:
- Isaiah 63:2-3; Joel 3:13; Revelation 14:17-20, 19:15; Lamentations 1:15.
- Jesus alone takes vengeance on the enemies of God. Isaiah 63:3, 5, 59:16; Revelation 5:1-5, 6:5.
- Jesus is righteous in his wrath, but does not delight in it. Ezekiel 18:23, 18:32, 33:11; 1 Tim. 2:4; 2 Pet. 3:9.
What Does this Mean to Me?
- I must work out my salvation with fear and trembling.
- I must be moved with compassion to fulfill Christ’s Great Commission.
