Assyria Was an Agent of Wrath

- See 2 Samuel 7:14; Dt. 28:25, 36, 49; Habakkuk 1-3.
Assyria Was anObject of Wrath
- God would judge Assyria too.
- See Isaiah 10:27-34; 37:36-38; Jonah 1-4; Nahum 1-3.
A Divine Paradox
Who attacked Judah and laid siege to Jerusalem?
a) The Assyrians
b) The Lord
c) Both a and b
A Christian must hold to these two biblical truths.
-
- God is absolutely sovereign in all earthly affairs. 1 Samuel 2:6-7; Hebrews 6:17; Psalm 115:3; Daniel 4:25, 4:35; Acts 2:23, 4:28; Ephesians 1:11; Philippians 2:13.
- Every human being (and indeed, nation) is responsible for his actions. Isaiah 10:7, 12; Ezekiel 18:20-21, Acts 2:38, 17:30.
- Be Berean and search the scriptures to see if these are true. Acts 17:11
Encouragements
- Understand the prophets by knowing how God deals with the nations of the earth.
- God is just and will repay every evil deed. He is powerful enough to be able to do it, and loving enough to be motivated to do it.
- As people with dual-citizenship, believers must engage with earthly authorities as ambassadors for Jesus Christ.
- Your own sins can be forgiven in Jesus Christ, and your heart changed by that same power that moves the nations to his will. Repent and trust in Jesus Christ.
