These notes accompany the sermon found here.

The Scriptures Point to Jesus

  • Three important statements Jesus made about the Scriptures: Matthew 5:17-18; John 5:39; Luke 24:25-27.
  • The fact that the Scriptures point to Jesus is foundational to the church: Ephesians 2:20; Acts 2:42; Acts 10:43, 17:2-3, 18:28, 26:22-23.
  • All the promises of God find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ: 2 Corinthians 1:20; Acts 13:32-39; Hebrews 11:13, 39-40, 12:1-2.

His Word Will Bring Many to Faith

  • His Word would be preached to all the world: Acts 1:8; 17:6, 24:5; Matthew 24:14; Isaiah 49:6; Luke 2:32; Matthew 28:18-20.
  • And many of those would believe: Genesis 12:3; Psalm 68:31-32; Matthew 13:23; John 17:20; Matthew 16:18; Revelation 7:13-14.

His Word Will Be Resisted

  • There will be persecution of the disciples: Matthew 5:10-12, 10:16-23.
  • There will be supernatural resistance: Matthew 13:18-19; Ephesians 6:11-12; John 17:14; Revelation 12:17, 13;7.
  • There will be human resistance: John 15:19, 16:1-4, 17:14;
  • But persecution should not be the result of our bad behavior: 1 Peter 2:12, 3:17, 4:15-16; Philippians 2:15; Titus 2:8.

It’s Just Like Jesus Said

  • We have all authority to continue the work under any circumstances: Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 4:19, 5:29.
  • Jesus has overcome the world: John 16:33; Romans 8:37; 1 John 4:4, 5:4-5; Revelation 3:21; 12:11.
  • Jesus will return to judge the world in righteousness: Acts 10:42, 17:31; Revelation 6:10.
